History
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the ÖTK Strudengau section of the third largest alpine club, the Austrian Tourist Club, an eleven metre high iron lookout was erected on the Bockmauer (a four metre high rock). The opening ceremony took place on 24 June 1894. The lookout was built by Anton Meisl, a master locksmith and coppersmith in Grein.
In 1926, new steps were installed, for which Mr Emmerich Meisl and Mr Jonke earned merit. In 1961, the ÖTK Strudengau section purchased the woodland around the lookout tower. In 1988/89, a new grating, new steps and a new balustrade were erected on the platform.
As the view was increasingly restricted by the trees and the 12-metre-high steel structure was already dilapidated, a new 21-metre-high stainless steel structure was erected in June 2018.
